Title: Basking Cougar

I wanted to portray a cougar basking in the warm winter sun. Because cougar's have warm hues, I chose to place it among warm colored desert rocks. I created the illusion of depth by layering and overlapping many gray, brown, blue, and yellow washes atop each other. The multiple washes gave texture to the rocks. The hair texture was done the same way using smaller brushes. As for the composition, I chose a rock design that would mimick the lines and shape of the cougar. I also chose rocks that had a cave inorder to invite you, the viewer, to wonder what was within; thus, adding depth to your curiosity.
