GENERAL INFORMATION

ESTIMATES ARE FREE!!
You don't have to pay me to send me your query for service. Let me know what you want done and I'll get back to you ASAP with a quote.

FEES/PAYMENT
There is a $65.00 minimum charge on all types of projects - even tiny ones.

FEES FOR ILLUSTRATIONS/ART
Fees depend on what you need, how long the job takes, and what type of reproduction rights you want. Reproduction rights vary whether you want specific or limited rights to reproduction (such as first North American rights to magazines which are less expensive), or you want work for hire (which would include all rights to reproduction and are more expensive). Royalties with advance payments (such as book content illustrations) depend on how large of a print run you are doing. I do not work for speculation.

FEES FOR BOOK COVER LAYOUTS, ADS, LOGOS, BROCHURES, ETC. . . .
I do these type of projects as Work For Hire, therefore, I do not retain copyright to the designs (you own the copyright). I do reserve the right, however, to use the design for promotion of my services. Here are some rough guidelines for fees:

If your cover or project takes an hour or less the fee is still $65.00. If it takes two hours the fee is $80.00, and $120.00 if it takes three hours, etc . . . . Minimum payment is $65.00 or half of the total project (whichever is higher) which is paid at the start. The remaining half is paid when the project is complete. You will receive the files after payment is received.

PAYMENT
Payment is made in three stages.

STAGE ONE
Stage one is the START-UP FEE which is one third the total cost and is paid prior to the start of the project. I do not send sketches, outlines, or give advice without a Start-Up Fee. Once I have a good idea of what you want, I will provide you with Preliminary Comps - multiple sketches/comps (usually three or more). Comps are usually rough sketches showing composition, simple sketched art, color options, etc. . . . If you do not like the comps, I will do some adjustments, but if you don't feel the comps are anywhere close to what you want, you have the option to back out and find a different artist. This fee will not be refunded, and the sketches will become yours, but you and I will not be obligated to continue working together any further. The Prelim Comps are the best time to hash out issues or have changes made. It is much easier to fix an idea in the sketch phase because the time spent on the art is minimal compared to the final illustrations, so this is the time to change your mind if your not satisfied. If you wait until after the job is complete, making changes at that point will be costly to you.

STAGE TWO
Stage two is paid (one third - again) and is paid after the Preliminary Comps are approved by you. At this point the final art will be made based on the Comp you liked.

STAGE THREE
Stage three is the last payment which is paid after the project is complete. When I receive payment, the files will be emailed to you. The rights to reproduction contract will also be transferred and emailed to you. In the event that you are not satisfied with the final art, I can make changes, but those changes may incur extra charges.

TIMELINE/SCHEDULE
I strive to respond to you within five business days. How long a project takes depends on how big your project is. For example, a simple book cover using your photograph can be done within a day of starting a contract. Likewise, ads, biz cards, and flyers can be done in a day. However, illustrating a book cover in a realistic style can take several weeks to finish and book content art can take weeks to months to complete depending on how much art you need. So how long your project takes depends on the number of hours invested into the job. I may also have other customers whose projects preceed yours, so you may have to wait until their projects are done. Generally, allow three weeks for your project to be complete unless it's a whopper of a project. Call or email with your specs, and I'll give you a time estimate.

ILLUSTRATION METHODS AND STYLES
My illustrations combine traditional and digital methods. I illustrate on paper, board, or canvas, and use watercolors, oils, pen and ink, pencil, gouache, and acrylics - whatever works best. I scan the physical art into a digital format and digitally enhance, float, embellish, etc. . . . the digital files. I also create some graphic designs and graphic illustrations directly on the computer. This is especially useful when creating layers of art in Channels for T-shirt seperations. I work with Photoshop, Illustrator, Corel Draw, and Adobe GoLive.

CHOOSING AN ILLUSTRATION STYLE
Currently, I have approximately ten different styles to choose from. Please browse these sections to see if I have the style you are looking for. If you don't see what you want, let me know what you are looking for. I might have samples I didn't yet post on the web and can email you those samples.

SAVE BY SUPPLYING YOUR OWN ART, PHOTOGRAPHS, OR CLIP-ART
If you are on a tight budget, you can save money by supplying me your own photographs or your own art. I'm happy to professionally edit, enhance, and lay them out with text and graphics. If you haven't got any good pictures, you can find photos from web photo library sources like. Some of these sources offer free photos (Please see a list below). It might take awhile to find the perfect photo you want, but you might be very satisfied with what you find. The only drawback to finding your photos on the photo libraries, is that your chosen photos can be used over and over by anyone. If you need art, you can save money by using CLIP-ART designs. There are hundreds of thousands of CLIP-ART designs out there, so you should be able to find what you need. Again, the one drawback to CLIP-ART is that the design you may love can be used by anyone, so you won't have an exclusive design.

I FIND YOUR PHOTOS OR CLIP-ART
I will gladly browse the photo and Clip-Art libraries for you if you haven't got the time, but I charge for this service.

YES, YOU CAN HAVE CHANGES MADE
Yes! You will have input throughout the process and can have changes made when you review the Comps. Additional changes can be made after the final art is complete, but there may be extra charges if the changes are major.

HERE'S HOW YOU GET STARTED
Send me an email with your project needs, and I'll get back to you ASAP.

MY ILLUSTRATION HISTORY
I've been a professional artist for over forty years. My list of noted clientele includes 20th Century Fox, Sirius Software, and Black Bear Diner. I've also won international awards for my T-shirt illustrations. While attending junior college I began illustrating science museum exhibits and planetarium shows at Sierra College, California. I later became the art director and had numerous responsibilities, such as, coordinating the creation and implementation of planetarium slide shows; assisting with upgrading the Science Center and Museum natural history exhibits; supervising part-time student staff in the creation of the planetarium shows; and researchinged science and natural history subjects to create planetarium shows and exhibits for the Center.

I later transferred to U.C. Davis to complete my fine art studies. While attending U.C. Davis I became director for the U.C. Davis Recreation Services Publicity Department where I supervised student staff in creating publicity materials and class schedules for the Recreation Services Department. Also, while at Davis I began illustrating computer game covers for Sirius Software, and other computer game companies.

Over time, I expanded my services to include logos, posters, advertisements, catalogs, patent drawings, museum exhibits, and other graphic projects. In 1997 my husband, Harry, and I began screen printing and embroidering apparel products. As the business expanded we also offered on-demand warehousing to some of our clients.
