New Painting, Snowy Plover Rocky Beach juried into maritime exhibition.

30th Annual Maritime Art Exhibition
July 6, 2023 – September 22, 2024

I’m thrilled to announce that my oil painting, ‘Snowy Plovers’ Rocky Beach’, was juried into the Coos Art Museum’s ‘30th Annual Maritime Art Exhibition’. As the only art museum on the Oregon Coast, Coos Art Museum feels a special kinship with the sea, and each year exhibit a juried selection of maritime-themed art from artists across the country. The ‘30th Maritime Art Exhibition’, is recognized by the American Society of Marine Artists (ASMA), and it is recognized as one of the best juried maritime exhibitions in the USA.

The exhibition opens July 6th at the museum with the Maritime Dinner and Awards Ceremony in the evening at The Mill Casino, Coos Bay, Oregon.

I was inspired to do this painting when I saw some Snowy Plovers feeding among the surf’s edge while I was hiking at Beverly Beach State Park in Newport, Oregon. I was so thrilled because I had never seen Snowy Plovers except in photographs. These Plovers were some of the cutest, animated shorebirds I had ever seen, so I knew I would have to do a painting of them. For this painting I placed them in a rocky beach scene with various rounded beach rocks of diverse types, sizes, and shapes that I felt best complimented and camouflaged the birds. The Plovers are close to the surf’s edge, which is how I saw them.

Painting will be Available for purchase at The 30th Annual Maritime Art Exhibition, July 6, 2023 thru September 22, 2024, at the Coos Art Museum in Coos Bay Oregon.
