I painted this scene after seeing a Mother Black-tailed deer gently kiss one of her fawns in our front yard on Black Mountain, Siskiyou County, California. Our property was a nursery ground for many of the mother deer, so we were often treated to a half dozen new fawns every year who were raised our property.
