Watercolor painting two horses and foal near old schoolhouse by Janet Tarjan Erl.

New Life of Spring

Medium: Watercolor, Image Size: 19”h x 28.5”w, 1993.

This watercolor is a nostalgic painting of various elements from around Siskiyou County, northern California. The meadow is in the Yreka Creek Valley on the Burton Ranch. The dilapidated building is an old schoolhouse on the Fiock Ranch. The horses were from Shasta Valley and Scott Valley, and the blooming apple trees were from Scott Valley. I had fun piecing all these subjects together into one painting.

The theme of this art was to contrast the new foal and new apple blossoms against the decay of the old schoolhouse.
