Woodland Buck
Medium: Gouache/Watercolor; Image Size: 12″h X 16″w; 2021.
I watched this deer grow from a cute fawn into this magnificent buck. He was a resident on our property on Black Mountain in Siskiyou County, California. I called him Isaac. The background oaks are the Oregon White Oaks typical of Northern California and Southern Oregon. They provide shade to keep the deer cool in the summer, and they offer abundant acorns to keep the deer well fed throughout the winter.
I experimented with this painting and did this as a watercolor under base, with gouache layered on top to give it an opaque look.
