One day, when I climbed the hill just west of Yreka, I saw this interesting setting of patchy snow, pine needles, and dry grasses. It looked like a perfect setting for a Scrub Jay, so I did this watercolor of a perky Scrub Jay. This painting exhibited in An Evening with Tarjan, 1995, Fairchild Medical Center, Yreka, California.
