Commercial Art & Public Art Portfolio
With over forty years of illustrating, I’ve had the opportunity to create a diversity of illustrations ranging from to simple designs to realistic illustrations. The range of ideas I have created is the result of listening to my clients, asking them lots of questions, and then I let my intuition, imagination, and expertise emerge. The styles that emerge are the results of what the client wants and needs. Here are some of my favorite artworks. Click on the images to see more on each image.
WHO I’VE CREATE FOR: I’ve been a professional artist and illustrator for over forty years. My list of commercial clientele includes 20th Century Fox, Sirius Software, and Black Bear Diner, plus many more. My list of public art projects includes Salt Lake City Airport, Sacramento Science Center and Junior Museum, City of Klamath Falls, plus other public organizations.
BRIEF HISTORY: While attending junior college I began illustrating science museum exhibits and planetarium shows at the Science Center and Museum Sierra College, California. I later became the art director and helped coordinate, create, and implement planetarium slide shows. I also helped improve natural history exhibits. After attending Sierra College, I transferred to U.C. Davis to complete my fine art studies. While at Davis I began illustrating computer game covers for Sirius Software, and other computer game companies. In 1997 my husband, Harry, and I began screen printing and embroidering apparel products. Our biggest client was Black Bear Diner, but we had hundreds of smaller clients.
WHAT I DO: I like taking an idea and turning it into a visual reality. My illustrations combine traditional and digital methods. For traditional methods I illustrate on paper, board, or canvas, and use watercolors, oils, pen and ink, pencil, gouache, and acrylics – whatever works best. I scan the physical art into a digital format and digitally enhance, float, embellish, etc. . . . the digital files. For digital methods I create illustrations and graphic designs directly on the computer. My favorite digital program to use is Photoshop where I draw and paint directly on the computer using a digital art pad. I then digitally enhance, float, embellish, etc.. Sometimes I work in layers, and sometimes I work in Channels (T-shirt separations). I also use Adobe Illustrator and Corel Draw.
WHY IT MATTERS: Good art inspires us and has the power to make us notice it, ourselves, and our world. It has the power to carry messages, and that’s what I like to do – make art that impacts and matters. I’m a creative thinker and love to let my creativity flourish, and it is in those creative realms that I excel.
