Perched On Cattails
Medium: Watercolor, Image Size: 18.25″h x 27.75″w, 1997.
I painted this Yellow-headed Blackbird perched atop a fluffed-out cattail. The cattails made an interesting composition for the bird. The background scene was on A-12 outside of Big Springs, California. This is one of the many lakes miraculously fed by springs from Mt. Shasta. The background rocks are volcanic, hence the dark, reddish-brown color, but the lower portions of the rocks are chalky white which is most likely dried algae caused by the raising and lowering of the water depth.
