Watercolor painting of a Sanderling by Janet Tarjan Erl.

Sanderling Study

Medium: Watercolor, Image Size: 4″h x 6″w, 2015.

This Sanderling was part of a huge flock of shorebirds that were migrating north along the California coast. The Sanderlings were the smallest of the birds, and the Long-billed Curlews were the biggest ones. Sanderlings are animated, and zippy as they dart in among the waves along the beach. This static scene of this little fellow doesn’t do a good job of showing how fast they are, but it does show their natural beauty.

This painting exhibited in the ‘Small Pleasures” exhibition, Brackenwood Gallery, Langley, WA.,
