ABOUT THE ARTWORK:  I photographed this juvenile cougar cat napping with its head resting on a small log. I painted it just as I had seen it. To do this painting in watercolor, I used masking fluid to block out the cat and log while I did a wet in wet wash for the background. After the background dried, I removed the masking fluid and painted the cat and log using very fine brushes and many layers of subtle washes.
