Watercolor painting of a Bald Eagle by Janet Tarjan Erl.

Where the Wind Sighs

Medium: Watercolor, Image Size: 20”h x 34”w, 1991.

This watercolor painting is of a majestic and confident Bald Eagle. The scene is one of the many spectacular places in Misty Fjords National Park, Alaska. This painting required many complex washes to build up the values and avoid painting lighter areas. The lichen on the tree were especially complex with many textural variations requiring very tiny washes and tiny brushes.

I was inspired to do this watercolor after a flight in the Misty Fjords National Monument, Alaska. I had just won the Owen Gromme Grant and used the money to pay for a guided trip in Alaska where I saw this unique and beautiful scene. This Bald Eagle was a good compliment to this Pacific northwest scene.
